FROM PRESIDENT TOM

May is Rotary’s Youth Service month As stated for this avenue of service, “Rotary believes in developing the next generation of leaders. Our programs help younger leaders build leadership skills, expand education and learn the value of service.” .
  • Our club supports several programs benefiting youth in the Golden area. These include:  Sponsoring 6 students from Golden High School each summer to attend a week-long residential student leadership camp (RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and 6 students from Bell Middle School to an additional camp (YRLA- Young Rotary Leadership Awards), both held at the YMCA of the Rockies, in Estes Park, Colorado. This year, due to the pandemic, YRYLA will not be held and RYLA will be offered to any high school-aged student via a one-day virtual conference on Zoom on Saturday, July 24th.
  • We also support a youth drama program at Miners’ Alley Playhouse, an art program through Foothills Art Center, the Bell Middle School Outdoor Lab program, the Miracle Shop at Christmas time to make available gifts for children, the Teen Mental Health Assistance Program at Golden High School, and scholarship programs for Golden High School and Warren Tech, awarding a total of $13,500 to deserving students this year.
  • In addition, the club sponsors Interact Clubs at Bell Middle School (BMS) and Golden High School (GHS). The GHS club was recognized as the top program (Interact Service Award) in Rotary District 5450 in 2016, 2018, & 2020 and the BMS club in 2015. Finally, for many years we have welcomed Rotary Exchange students from around the world, hosted by club members and families in the community and attending Golden High School. Bill Getzinger is the chair of the Youth Service Committee.
