Our Speaker today was Colorado State Treasurer Walker Stapleton, Colorado’s 43rd State Treasurer with extensive private sector background in finance which uniquely prepared him for his current position.  Duties include investing Colorado’s tax dollars, overseeing the Unclaimed Property Division and serving on the Board of our Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA).  Walker is a member of the Denver Southeast Rotary Club.  He graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts and holds a graduate degree in business economics from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Harvard Business School.  Walker envisions a more fiscally responsible and effective state government with priorities to safely and prudently invest Colorado’s tax dollars, reform Colorado’s PERA and bring a higher level of accountability and transparency to government.  He is very busy with fiscal relief issues – working on ethical, common sense fiscal policy issues – re-financing unemployment insurance benefits – debt consolidation of all state agencies into the Treasurer’s Office.  He is tracking debt in all the Colorado Agencies on an annual basis instituted to know how much debt is issued among the 18 state agencies to improve fiduciary responsibilities.  Thank you for taking the time to share your visions with Golden Rotary.
