Presentation of Blue Circle Membership Award – Membership Chair PP Pat Madison presented Brian Richy with a blue circle to wear under his Rotary pin for recruiting a new member in this Rotary Year.  With 8 new members we should see a few more of these membership blue circles showing up!  Congrats Brian!

  • “PDG” Dan Himelspach and spouse Leslie Lawson and also “DG” Peter Ewing and his Spouse MJ will be joining us for this 26 June Transition Dinner!!
  • Tom Hughes announced next “social” at the Briarwood – on the patio Wednesday, June 18th around 5:30 PM start.  A great place for food, drink & fellowship!
  • Jamie and Julie Sheridan are planning to host a picnic for Katka before she leaves for home - on Tuesday, June 24 from 5:30-8pm at Lions Park in Golden (near the Rec Center.)  They will provide BBQ meat, plates, cutlery, and cups.  “We” request that guests bring their favorite drink (we will have a liquor permit - no glass beer bottles) and a side dish (salad, appetizer, snack, dessert).  And if you haven’t already – please bring a few bucks for Katka’s goodbye gift from us Golden Rotarians.
  • Arvada Sunrise Rotarian PP Susan Hanford took a few minutes to announce their fundraiser – go to Arvada Sunrise website for all the details!
  • PP Kevin Nichols has International Service Meeting after this meeting to discuss Nicaragua Project, Mongolia Project and Budget Review.
 
Happy Bucks / SOCKO – Josh picked up a “bundle” in Happy Bucks for Rotary charities, starting off with the Steve and Lori “getaway” resulting in Steve getting a “bum leg” but all is well now.  Brian Richy updated his family of sons with #3 achieving high school baseball recognition/ #2 going on into Maritime Academy/ #1 hired by Los Angeles Dodgers to start his professional baseball career – well done Richy Family!!  The BIG HIT came with PP George Mitchell’s announcement of 54 years of “Wedded Bliss”- (so says George) with Sue on 24 June!!  George presented Josh with $54 for all those blissful years – CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU George and Sue!  
SOCKO ticket winner was drawn today by our visiting Arvada Sunrise PP Susan Hanford – and we saw PP Tom Pott holding the winning ticket.   Unfortunately Tom didn’t pull the correct color marble from that sock – a winner/loser - taking home an artisan loaf of whole wheat bread from our own Judy Denison…..
 
TODAY’S PROGRAM
Erin Ludke is the Community Outreach Coordinator for Stryker Orthopedics at Summit Surgical.  Erin brought with her Dr. Mark Conklin – a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult and pediatric foot and ankle surgery.  Dr. Conklin received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine.  He then completed his internship and residency at Indiana University at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.  His Fellowship in food and ankle surgery was completed at the Balance Foot and Ankle Center in Long Beach, CA and UCLA/Harbor Medical Center under Ronald W. Smith, MD and William S. Stryker, MD.  Dr. Conklin is a member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.
Dr. Conklin discussed toe implants, ankle replacements, Ankle Arthritis treatments – cleaning, fusion and replacements.  He also demonstrated knee replacements and reviewed various procedures to improve his patients’ quality of life.  Models of the toe and ankle replacement hardware in place – were passed among us.
