Saturday evening, February 24, found Golden Rotarian Eileen Schurmann surrounded by family, friends, and a few Rotarians as she was recognized  by Golden Elks Lodge # 2740 as the 2018 Citizen of the Year for her years of outstanding service with Rotary, the West Chamber, Lakewood Legacy, and, most compelling, her work with Stout Street Foundation which has become her real passion.
Eileen’s sons fought their battles with drug addiction for many years.  Then her eldest son entered the Stout Street Foundation in 2012.  She witnessed the profound change it made in him, and joined the board in 2015 to offer her time and talent in support of the Foundation and its work. Eileen stepped up to teach monthly banking and finance classes to residents who are about to re-enter society, helping them achieve sound financial footing to aid in their success.  She also teaches a monthly orientation class to parents and families, as their loved ones enter the program. Needless to say, Eileen remains committed to finding the best paths for addicts to find a meaningful and rewarding life that helps them become a contributing member of society.  Congratulations, Eileen, for being named the Golden Elk’s 2018 Citizen of the Year!!
